settled on base sepolia
An agent paid for an API call.
Not a diagram. Four commands you can run yourself, and a transaction anyone can read without asking us for anything.
1 — Ask without paying
A priced route answers an unauthenticated request with 402 and the terms. Run this now; the response below is the live one.
curl -s -X POST https://api.wayleave.dev/v1/identify \
-H 'content-type: application/json' \
-d '{"headers":{}}'{
"x402Version": 1,
"error": "payment required",
"accepts": [{
"scheme": "exact",
"network": "base-sepolia",
"maxAmountRequired": "1000",
"asset": "0x036CbD53842c5426634e7929541eC2318f3dCF7e",
"payTo": "0x50a39061ffcdde872f2f644fb1fc78a719c0f4ce",
"resource": "https://api.wayleave.dev/v1/identify",
"maxTimeoutSeconds": 60
}]
}No account, no signup, no key. The price is $0.001 — 1000 at six decimal places — and payTo is the operator’s own address, not ours.
Run it from this page
The same call as above, made by your browser rather than described to you. It fires when you ask it to — a demo that ran on page load would write a crossing into the ledger this page cites as evidence, which is the mistake this product exists to point out.
2 — Pay
The agent signs an EIP-3009 transferWithAuthorization and puts it in an X-PAYMENT header, base64. It sends no transaction and spends no gas, so the wallet needs USDC and does not need ETH.
WAYLEAVE_AGENT_KEY=0x… node client/agent.jsThe server hands the signed authorisation to the facilitator, which submits it. A failure to settle is a refusal, not a warning: traffic fails open, money fails closed.
3 — The transaction
block 46,595,148
from 0x933dcc69…2B97 (agent)
to 0x50a39061…f4Ce (operator)
value 0.05 USDC
status success
Read it from the chain rather than from us:
cast receipt 0x20013b42e5eadfec… \
--rpc-url https://sepolia.base.orgThe transfer goes straight from the agent to the operator. Wayleave is not in the path and never takes a cut — routing funds would make it money transmission.
What this proves, and what it does not
Both halves, because the second is the one you would otherwise find on your own.
It proves the whole path works on a live deployment: a spec-shaped challenge, a signed authorisation from a wallet with no account, settlement through a third-party facilitator, and money arriving at an address that is not ours.
It does not prove a market. This is Base Sepolia, where the USDC has no monetary value. The payer was our own agent wallet — the settlement is filed under acceptance-proof for exactly that reason — and no outside customer has paid us yet. The verified-agent lane on our own properties has been zero for every measurement we have taken, and we publish that too.
What you are looking at is a mechanism that runs, not traction. We would rather you knew which one.
